COLONIAL LEGAL IDEAS FROM MANUEL DA NÓBREGA'S “DIÁLOGO SOBRE A CONVERSÃO DO GENTIO”.

Abstract

The present research presents as its central analytical object the text “Diálogo sobre a Conversão do Gentio”, by Father Manuel da Nóbrega, bearing in mind the connection between the literary text and the sixteenth-century legal debate on the problem of enslavement of the Brazilian indigenous people. Therefore, points of convergence between the Jesuit's literary writing and the legal ideas developed by him in other documents will be sought.
