HORIZONTES ALCANÇADOS PELA LITERATURA EM BUSCA DA HUMANIZAÇÃO DA PENA

Abstract

Based on the practical report of the UFSM Extension Project Livros que Livram - Remição pela Leitura, this article aims to see literature as a potential exponent to be included in Brazilian criminal policy. To this end, using the deductive approach and documentary, bibliographic and field research, the investigation starts from the concept that the State monopolizes the exercise of punitive pretension, leaving the pillars of prevention and re-education of the penalty deficient, and consequently causing a violation of the human dignity of people deprived of their liberty. From this perspective, since literature is a mechanism of instruction and an invitation to the imagination, the formation of a critical sense and the broadening of the reader's world view, the work is based on the following question: how does the methodological rigor of applying sentence remission through reading coexist with the playfulness of literature? In conclusion, it is clear that respect for the procedures remain the steps required to reduce the length of the sentence, while the creative potential of literature is seen in the continuity of the group's activities as a mechanism to encourage reading and foster its use in human development.
