WACQUANT AND GAMBINO: A REPORT CONCERNING CRIMINOLOGY AND MUSIC

Abstract

Loïc Wacquant’s work invites us to reflect on a change from the welfare to the workfare state in the United States of America. Through massive cuts in social insurance and investments in the punitive system, vulnerable people change from their habitational program to the prisons. Ten years after the last version of Wacquant’s book, Childish Gambino releases a videoclip which complains mainly about police violence against black people in the USA. This article’s purpose is to investigate both works through the inductive approach method, and then point its similarities and how they interact with each other. There are three main tangential moments between both works.
